Frequently Asked Questions

I have an existing time clock / programmer and 2 zones in my house. Do I have to change my programmer to fit the SmartHome Text unit to remotely turn the heating on and off?

Most programmers can be used with the SmartHome Text, so your existing programmer and zone thermostats should work with it. Check the wiring diagrams on the installation section.

My existing programmer is old and I want to change it. What do you recommend?

We can supply a new programmer to work with your system. Please email us to get further details

Do I need a phone line for remote connection?

No, the SmartHome Text has a build in mobile phone and uses a Pay as you go card

Do I have to pay premium rates for my phone calls?

No, the SIM card fitted is a standard Vodafone Pay as you go SIM card. When you call the property to switch the heating, you are not charged for the call. You are only charged for the SMS text messages the unit sends to you.

How Many phones can I register to the SmartHome Text?

You can register 8 phones to the unit. The first 2 numbers will receive an SMS message every time there is a change of status, the other 6 will only get a report when they request it.

I want the display to say "Oil Low" rather than alarm, is that possible?

The standard unit has fixed messages. Please contact us to discuss your requirements as customisation may be possible however there may be an additional cost.

What can I connect to the alarm inputs?

The alarm inputs can accept inputs from volt free contacts. A Volt free contact is simple a pair of contacts that close, like a switch, when an event occurs. So if you have something that can give a closing (or opening) contact this can be used. eg. Water level, Gas detection, security alarms etc.
