Wallplate overview
The wall plates that are fitted in a property are very important for a number of reasons. Primarily they are the way of operating the systems in the house but equally important they must be intuitive to use and they must look good
It is no good having a single type of plate offering multiple scene setting if this is to be used in a cloakroom with a single light fitting!
The smartkontrols smart wallplates can be used for a number of different functions, they can turn lighting on and off, they can recall preset lighting scenes, they can change the temperature in a room, adjust the fan speed, open the curtains or blinds or even be linked to the audio system in the property.

To give you an idea of the types of switches that are available, we have shown here a number of the types of switches in a brass finish to illustrate the variety.
The Rotary knob
This wallplate incorporates an on/off pushbutton operation with the rotary dimmer. Because this is part of an intelligent lighting system, the plate can be combined as part of the whole house lighting, so that it can be switched as part or route lighting for example.
The Slider
This wallplate can be fitted with either one or two sliders. These can be used in conjunction with other wall plates and they can provide an alternative to the conventional rotary knob where they can provide visual feedback on the current setting.
The 2 button wallplate
This plate can be used for a number of different functions with different legends on the front.
For example it can be used as a simple on/off light switch. Alternatively it could be used as a curtain or blind control, allowing curtains to be opened or closed at the press of a button. this could be incorporated into a lighting scene where the lights are dimmed, the curtains drawn ready to watch a program on the home cinema.
The 5 button wallplate
This wallplate allows the buttons to be programmed for a number of operations. One example of this is a plate set up to select 4 preset lighting scenes and the 5th button provides an off control.
Alternatively the plate could be set up to allow the selection of 4 different routes of lighting through the property. So when you enter the front door, you can select a route to the kitchen, or up the stairs.
The 7 button wallplate
The 7 button plate adds the ability to change the brightness of a scene by the use of the raise lower / buttons on the top right of the plate. This adds flexibility to the room by allowing fine tuning, or in fact large changes to the lighting that has been set up.
The 8 button wallplate
The 8 button plate allows further flexibility to the lighting system user interface. Here up to 8 different lighting scenes could be recalled from a single location, perhaps combining light level control in one room with a number of multiroom function, all available at the press of a button.
Heating Lighting and Curtain control
So far we have looked at the possibilities of single function control, however one of major benefits of the smartkontrols solution is that functions can be combined in a single wallplate. The combination of functions that can be incorporated in a single wallplate is limited only by the space available.
The plate shown here incorporates heating controls on the left, allowing the room temperature setpoint to be adjusted along with an override to bring on the heating outside of normal operating hours.
In the centre is a curtain or blind control, with the buttons allowing the opening and closing of he curtains. This could equally be used to lower a projection screen for a home cinema.
On the right hand side are the lighting controls, where pre-saved scenes can be recalled or the lighting turned off.
